Book Club

I’ve been making more of an effort to read a few books every month (or two) - I find it helps flex my creative muscles! Sometimes I feel like anything online - Instagram, Facebook, Tumblr, VSCO - can actually stunt my creativity and I end up comparing my content to others - it just isn’t productive. So reading has been inspiring me lately and helps me stay in my own lane!

All the books on this list are female-centric, some make you want to love, others make you want to rule the world - we’re complicated creatures. Pictures and links above, starting off with my favourite:

  1. Pachinko

Ugh. This book. Let me start off by saying that I’ve never been big into war history and have never considered myself to be intrigued by Korean culture but none of that matters because you will not be able to put this book down. It’s extremely well written and tells the story of a Korean family over 4 generations. I won’t divulge much more than that, pick it up and give it a read - It will hit you right in the feels.

  2. The Power

Girl Power. This book will make you want to get up and revolt - literally. Teenage girls develop the ability to conduct electricity through their hands and it ends up flipping the patriarchy on its head. Don’t let the sci-fi-ish description scare you off, it reads as a novel that’ll leave you thinking you also have a Skein.

  3. The Husband’s Secret

Written by the author of Big Little Lies this book touches on relationships, the webs we weave, and perfectionism, all the while leaving you on a cliff with an unsolved mystery. It’s a great read that could easily be turned into a TV series in the future.

Have any of you read these? I’m always looking for new recommendations, what books are you reading right now! Also, you can find me on GoodReads under Alesia Alward!
